1

Functionality

Made from stainless steel and brass, the Ferdl is an impressive device that attracts attention even in the largest wine cellar or the most imposing presentation area. A stainless steel plate in the shape of a wine leaf is used as a base. Under the pouring device is an LED to detect any possible sediment when decanting large wine bottles.

2

Manufacturing

The Ferdl's pouring device is controlled by a crank that enables precise pouring and creates a special anticipation for the wine through its smooth handling. Originally, the Ferdl was designed for the gastronomy sector to facilitate handling the largest and best wine bottles. It is already widely appreciated there and is in constant use for decanting and pouring large bottles.

Decanting Machine for Large Bottles

The Creation of a Unique Decanting Machine.

An extraordinary invention and its special origin story.

The Beginning
May 2013

The Beginning

The idea for this wine pouring aid for large bottles originated during a convivial gathering at the beautiful Winzerhaus Kogelberg. There, they repeatedly had problems decanting large bottles during ongoing operations. Hand pouring did not do justice to the impressive appearance of a very large wine bottle.

When the manager Klaus Zechner described his problem to wine lover and inventor Ferdinand Dingleder over a convivial glass of red wine, he became attentive. He immediately set to work developing a solution that would combine functionality and aesthetics.

The Development
June 2013

The Development

After a labor-intensive month in his inventor's workshop, Ferdinand Dingsleder was already able to present a prototype of the "Ferdl" decanting machine. It impressed not only with sophisticated functionality but also with magnificent design and the processing of high-quality materials.

The Completion
October 2013

The Completion

The finished invention was enthusiastically received, and the very first Ferdl has been in operation at Winzerhaus Kogelberg ever since. Due to the keen interest of Winzerhaus Kogelberg's customers in the Ferdl, the idea arose to also offer the device on the internet. This means that you too can adequately pour your fine large bottles.

The Inventor of the Ferdl.

From motocross rider to wine lover to inventor.

Ferdinand Dingsleder

Ferdinand Dingsleder

Styria, Austria

There is much to tell about Ferdinand "Ferry" Dingsleder, the inventor of the Ferdl, who was born in Tillmitsch in 1949.

Even if you have already decided on the Ferdl, you should take another 3 minutes to read the story of Ferdinand Dingsleder. It will show you where the experience, expertise, and love for wine come from that make the Ferdl such a special product.

The spirit of innovation and invention that slumbers in Ferdinand Dingsleder has already manifested itself in many projects.

His passion for technology and motorsport already motivated him in 1972 to reconstruct a private Formula car solely based on photos. In this extensive project, he crafted each individual part by hand.

Ferdinand Dingsleder

In this newspaper article from 1973, you can see the racing car with which Ferdinand Dingsleder would also compete in several races.

The construction of this racing car shows how technically gifted and, above all, hardworking Ferdinand Dingsleder was at a young age. His enthusiasm for motorsport and solving technically challenging problems has remained with him to this day.

After building his own Formula car, it was time to switch from four wheels to two. In the following years, the name Ferdinand Dingsleder significantly shaped the motocross scene in Austria.

Ferdinand Dingsleder's Racing Career.

In his successful career as a motocross rider, including for the Husqvarna team, he managed to gain fame, glory, and recognition far beyond the borders of Styria. At the height of his success, he was immortalized on a quartet card. He rides a Montesa 500 for the Husqvarna team.

Ferdinand Dingsleder was not just a motocross rider. His two-wheeled vehicle was also repurposed by him and used for show performances. He attracted nationwide attention in Austria with his stunts. He earned the nickname "Death Jumper" at an event in St. Oswald. In front of 10,000 spectators, he first performed a jump with his motorcycle over 15 people. But this was not the only stunt of the evening. His jump through a 4-millimeter thick glass pane with his motorcycle had never been performed in Austria before. But Ferdi wouldn't be himself if he hadn't gone one step further. At this event, he pierced through a 20 cm thick wall of bricks. Here, too, he was the first to have the boldness to put this undertaking into practice.

From the daring "Death Jumper" to the brilliant inventor.

As he was already locally known for his technical skills and inventive spirit, a well-known winemaker asked him to invent a device that would make seeding and spraying vineyards easier. From 1990, Ferdinand began working on technical aids for viticulture. His "rotary mulcher with sensor", a special device for mowing and spraying vineyards, manifested itself in 1991 in an Austrian patent and in 1994 also in a European patent. Several hundred units were produced, many are still used today. A further development of the special mulcher, which could now also mow roadside strips, was used by the tramway maintenance departments. These devices were all manufactured by his own locksmith shop.

This creates a connection to the Ferdl, which is also manufactured individually in the south of Austria and which also first served to help a friend who was a winemaker to pour oversized wine bottles.

Ferdinand Dingsleder was also successful as a motocross rider and was able to record some achievements. His interest in technology and mechanics eventually led him to winemaking and wine enjoyment, where he could bring in his passion for precision and craftsmanship.

The combination of technical understanding, attention to detail, and wine knowledge made him the ideal inventor of the Ferdl - a decanting machine that is both functional and aesthetically appealing.
